The Republic Party's verbal tic

Interesting post by Digby:
I hate to step on all the good feelings of brotherly and sisterly love we all feel today, but when I hear the new Minority Leader John Boehner call us the "Democrat party" in the same speech in which he is calling for civility, I can't help but wonder whether he knows what that means. You see, it actually isn't very civil at all to change the name of someone's else's political party against their will. In fact, it's universally considered rude and cretinous not to call people by the names and designations by which they wish to be called. Just a thought, in case anyone on the Republican side wonders why so many people think they are unctuous hypocrites. (Yeah, I know.)

Bonus: isn't "unctuous" a great word?

this is a strange one. i can understand the strategy behind rebranding the estate tax the death tax and such, but i just don't get why they should care if they call the dems, appropriately, the democratic party?

i mean, i get that "democratic" invokes all of those freedomy national values and such, but do they really think that "democrat" will have a different meaning to people and do they really think people aren't saavy enough (for all the presumed stupidity of the american public, study after study shows alarming levels of variable brand awareness and media interpretation) to know the differece between "democratic societies are good" and "the democratic party is in office."

this is one of my favorite topics: the effect of rebranding the democratic party, the "democrat" party. In the first place, it sounds ungrammatical, which I guess appeals to the less educated "republic" party, and their grammatically-challenged leader. It is all part of the group-think promulgated by Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and the like. They have made up their own little patois that makes a bunch of losers who listen to them feel a sense of belonging and superiority.
