Bush to Troops: Drop Dead.

“We’ll continue to be flexible and we will make the changes necessary to succeed,” Mr. Bush said. “But there’s one thing I’m not going to do: I’m not going pull the troops off the battlefield before the mission is complete.”

When the President says "I’m not going pull the troops off the battlefield before the mission is complete,” absent a defined and achievable mission, that sounds an awful lot like he's telling the troops, "we don't know what the mission is, and we don't know if it's possible, but you can't leave until you're finished with it." What leadership.

Any politician or pundit who pops off with this kind of empty rhetoric ("whatever it takes to complete the mission") should be forced to put their money where their mouth is. They should be asked: will you enlist? Would you urge your son or daughter (or daughters) to enlist?

I'm in favor of a constitutional amendment that anyone who says "do what is necessary to succeed" without actually saying what it is they think is necessary or what they think success is can be kicked in the crotch with impunity.

I realized another way to read this (emphasis added) is:
“But there’s one thing I’m not going to do: I’m not going pull the troops off the battlefield before the mission is complete.”

So someone may do it - in part because it's the most sensible thing to do. But it won't be George W. Bush. He will walk away from this giant disaster he created.

bush bashing is so utterly hackneyed, trite, and unoriginal. really. seriously. enough. let's start blaming those who deserve it - the terrorists.

blame the terrorists because bashing bush is boring?

you know what would be COOL? if bush actually decided to fight the terrorists. yeah, that'd rock!

So is getting bogged down in an Asian land war, but that don't seem to stop us...

well i agree that he has done an awful job fighting the terrorists. we should have had 300,000 troops over there in march 2003. i just find that folk like jon stewart, bill maher, and others of their ilk are just not funny. bush was re-elected president in 2004 so why can't people just deal with it.

I'll stop bashing him when he stops deserving it.

I didn't give up the right to disapprove of the President after the 2004 election; no one did.

Depending on the opinion poll you look at, his approval rating is hovering in the low to mid 30s.

One of the foundations of democracy is dissent. I know it's hard to remember that, given the way this administration has effectively silenced most of it. But if you take away our right to voice our negative opinions of our President (for whom, btw, I did not ever vote) - we're not living in America anymore, and the terrorists have won.
